Team Lead Responsibilities
Overview
Each week, one team member serves as team lead on a rotating basis. The team lead is responsible for coordinating team efforts, maintaining communication, and keeping the project on track. This role is an opportunity to practice the facilitation and organizational skills expected in professional software development teams.
Responsibilities
While serving as team lead for the week, you are responsible for the following:
- Prepare a short meeting agenda and keep the team on task during the meeting.
- Help the team break work into clear weekly tasks and assign ownership.
- Track progress in the team's workflow tool (for example, GitHub Projects) and identify blockers early.
- Coordinate code review flow by ensuring each member knows what to review and by when.
- Post a brief team update in Microsoft Teams with decisions, assignments, and deadlines.
The team lead role does not mean doing more technical work than others. It means making sure the team has what it needs to move forward: clarity on priorities, visibility into blockers, and timely communication.
