WDD 330: Web Frontend Development II

W03: Final Individual Project – Brainstorm

Overview

This assignment is the first step in planning your final project: a web application that you design and build on your own, on a topic of your choice. It is separate from the SleepOutside application you are building with your team.

Two projects, running side by side

The purpose of this week's brainstorm is to generate several possible ideas so that next week you can choose one and write a detailed proposal. The final project is completed during weeks 5 through 7, so look for ideas that are useful, engaging, and have a reasonable scope for that amount of time.

Instructions

  1. Brainstorm a list of at least four (4) application ideas that sound interesting to you.
  2. For each idea, identify at least two (2) third-party APIs that could supply its data. An idea is only viable if it uses at least two third-party API sources.

The Web Frontend Resources page has a list of possible third-party APIs that you can use for your project.

⚠️ Note that you are not allowed to use the OpenWeatherMap API as one of your two sources for your web application project. This weather API service was assigned and used in WDD 231.

  3. Share your ideas with your team and others for feedback. Your teammates can help you refine your ideas, but each student builds their own final project; it is not a team project.
  4. You do not have to choose one idea until next week's proposal. However, if one clearly stands out, start planning around it.

As you are brainstorming, start with your own interests or applications that fill a need that you have experienced. Building an application about something you know and enjoy is easier and more engaging than building one about something you do not.

Submission

Submit your list of at least four final project ideas. For each idea, include a one or two sentence description and the third-party APIs that could support it.
