CSE 300: Professional Readiness

W02 Assignment: Contact People for Informational Interviews

Overview

Purpose: Arrange future informational interviews.

Now that you have learned about informational interviews, it is time to begin reaching out to people to try to schedule some interviews. During this course you are expected to follow through and conduct at least three informational interviews.

Because not everyone you contact will respond or be willing to meet with you, you will likely need to contact significantly more than three people. Also, because it will take time to find the right person and coordinate a meeting with them, you need to start contacting people right away, to ensure that you will be able to complete at least three interviews before the course is over.

For this assignment, you will identify and reach out to five people.

Instructions

Complete the following:

  1. Finish the list of at least ten possible questions you could ask in an informational interview (this is the list you started in your team activity).
  2. Identify five people or companies from the employer list that you created last week.
  3. For each of the five you have identified, fill out the top sections of the Know Your Professional Guide. (This includes the professional's name, company, position, location, and an email template to schedule the interview.)
  4. For each of the five, reach out to the person or someone at the company to schedule a potential informational interview.
