The reading this week is woefully lacking. A great deal of our work in the class debate will be to find and read better sources. Please budget your time accordingly. Note that the two Peopleware chapters have absolutely nothing to do with DevOps. Instead, they cover general teamwork issues that are common to all software development models.
The Black Team
Please read The Black Team in Peopleware. When you do so, ask yourself: Do you want to be on the black team? How can you make all your teams black?
T. DeMarco & T. Lister,
Chapter 22: The Black Team.
Peopleware : Productive Projects and Teams, Third Edition
Teamicide
Please read Teamicide in Peopleware. Initially, you will probably not be a manager. As you watch people manage you, ask yourself "what can I learn from this? What kind of manager do I want to be?" It turns out, you don't have to wait until you are promoted. You can start influencing your team in a positive way today! As you read this chapter, ask yourself: how can I, as an individual contributor, avoid Teamicide?
T. DeMarco & T. Lister,
Chapter 23: Teamicide.

What is DevOps? A Systematic Mapping Study on Definitions and Practices
This article is a bit unusual. The entire article is just an attempt by the authors to understand what DevOps is! Unlike Waterfall, XP, and SCRUM which were well-defined from the start by a small number of individuals, DevOps started as an idea.
You do not need to read this entire article. You can skip Chapter 3 unless you are thinking of going to graduate school. However, pay special attention to Chapter 4, especially Table 3, 4, 5, and 7.
In our Design report next week, you are going to need additional sources to define DevOps. In other words, you are going to have to use X's definition or Y's implementation as a basis of our report. The many references listed in Table 3 (referring to the sources in Chapter 7) will be a good springboard for that work.
